An old farmerhouse house located on a hillside with an exceptional view over the ocean and Santa Tecla Mount, the later in the side of Spain, close to the Minho River estuary.
A house built with wisdom, strong stone walls, openings with granite frames and a wide arch sheltering the entrances in the ground level. This level was mainly used to keep the farming tools and the animals. A second floor for habitation was also comprised.
A dwelling with an entrance through a veranda with wide windows to the South, an indoor division with living room and alcoves on the West and a kitchen with a big oven-fireplace facing the North with an independent access through a sheltered porch.
A thoughtful detailing concerning all the granite works, which remained in good conditions; cover and divisions made of partition walls, almost in ruins, but enabling the gathering of samples concerning its details.
A terraced filed and a small threshing floor with granite slabs contributed to harmoniously integrate the whole ensemble into the surrounding area.
The design proposed the spatial maintenance of the ground floor, very conditioned by the structural walls; the organization of a wide space – living, working, meals – on the first floor, which interlinked a nucleus of two bedrooms, one bathroom and the kitchen. Also the details would be similar to the existing ones through an effort close to restoration work.
A high-quality constructor, Mr. Manuel Guardão, who besides the civil construction was also a Master in naval construction, made the whole process seem easy.
