Beatriz Madureira

Beatriz Madureira was born on November 21st, 1940, in Barcelos. She attended the Porto Fine Arts School (ESBAP) where she finished, in July 1964, the curricular part of the Architecture course, obtaining the Architecture Diploma in July 1966. She was a professor at ESBAP between 1977 and 1985 and then at FAUP until 2002, when she retired. 

Alongside Fernando Távora, she took part in the School Board, in its management, and in the teaching of General Theory of the Organization of The Space (TGOE). Since 1961 and throughout her teaching period, she collaborated in Álvaro Siza’s architecture studio. 

She did an internship at the Civil Engineering National Laboratory (LNEC), of the former Ministry of Public Works in 1965-66. Still in the 1960s, she collaborated in Victor Figueiredo’s studio, in Lisbon, and Arménio Losa’s studio, in Porto (1966-1969). She held the position of Architect inf the General Directorate for School Buildings - School Buildings in the North between 1970 and 1975. 

Since 1967, she had occasional collaborations with Alfredo Matos Ferreira’s studio, and between 1974 and 1976, she worked with Local Ambulatory Support Service – SAAL Norte, in brigades led by the architects Alfredo Matos Ferreira and Fernando Távora. At the invitation of the architect Fernando Távora, she collaborated in the "J. Marques da Silva – Arquitecto” Exhibition and respective catalog, which took place in Porto in March and April 1986.
