Colóquio Novo/Antigo: FERNANDO TÁVORA
The ‘Colóquio Novo/Antigo: FERNANDO TÁVORA’, part of the editorial project with the same name coordinated by Teresa Cunha Ferreira, David Ordoñez-Castañón and Eleonora Fantini, intends to introduce a new and deeper look on intervention practices in the built environment developed by Fernando Távora. While documenting the whole renovation projects’ process of the selected works (before, during, after), which includes the gathering of information currently scattered in public and private archives, the collection of oral memories at risk of being lost and the in-situ observation through drawing, the books aim at disseminating disciplinary approaches with a pedagogical attitude for the future praxis of architects.
This Colloquium, co-organised by Fundação Marques da Silva and Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (PACT Group) of FAUP, will highlight intervention projects in existing buildings for which the architect Fernando Távora, due to his family and cultural background, developed a special sensibility anchored in the “third way”. The one that allowed him, through a new integrated modernity with an appreciation for the character of places and constructions, to “continue-innovating”.
A relevant set of participants – family, colleagues, critics, friends, collaborators – will be present at Fundação Marques da Silva to share their testimony on the thoughts and works of Fernando Távora. The scheduled program includes two roundtables and the presentation of two books that record the research carried out on a significant number of restoration, conservation and renovation works by Fernando Távora: Novo/Antigo. Fernando Távora: Obras and Novo/Antigo. Fernando Távora: Conversas.
